Hoping to relieve his wife’s discomfort, the man immediately contacted the recommended dentist and booked an urgent appointment, under the assumption that the £75 fee quoted over the phone would cover the entire procedure.
A Shocking £275 Price Tag for a Tooth Extraction
Upon arriving at the new dental practice, the man’s wife was examined for another brief five to 10 minutes. Once again, the diagnosis was confirmed: a severe abscess. However, when the dentist informed them that extracting the tooth would cost £275, the man was floored. He initially thought his wife’s pain might have impaired her judgment, but to his dismay, the price was accurate.
Though the dentist prescribed antibiotics for the infection, the tooth remained broken, and the pain persisted. The man jokingly commented, “I’ll get the pliers out from the shed, and I will only charge her a tenner!” highlighting his disbelief at the hefty charge.

Beyond the examination fee of £75, the couple was also charged £10 for the prescription, bringing their total expenses to £85.
