Simple Home Remedies to Remove Yellow Tartar

Tartar is a common dental problem that affects many people. It is often caused by the buildup of plaque and can lead to various oral health issues, such as bad breath, gum disease, and tooth decay. While regular dental checkups are important for maintaining healthy teeth and gums, there are also several natural remedies that you can use at home to remove yellow tartar from your teeth.

Brush Your Teeth Twice a Day

The most important step in preventing and removing tartar buildup is to brush your teeth regularly. Using a fluoride toothpaste twice a day will help remove plaque and prevent it from hardening into tartar. Make sure to brush all surfaces of your teeth, including the front, back, and chewing surfaces, using circular motions and gentle pressure.

  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to avoid damaging your tooth enamel.
  • Replace your toothbrush every three to four months or when the bristles start to fray.
  • Consider using an electric toothbrush for a more thorough cleaning.

Floss Daily

Flossing is another essential step in maintaining good oral hygiene and preventing tartar buildup. Flossing helps remove food particles and plaque between teeth and along the gum line, where toothbrushes cannot reach. Make sure to floss gently but thoroughly, sliding the floss up and down each side of each tooth.

Small points:

  • Use waxed or unwaxed floss according to your preference.
  • If you find traditional floss difficult to use, consider using a water flosser or interdental brushes.
  • Floss before brushing your teeth to remove any loosened debris.

Use Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide

Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide are two effective and inexpensive ingredients that can help remove yellow tartar from teeth. Baking soda is mildly abrasive and can scrub away surface stains, while hydrogen peroxide can help kill bacteria that contribute to tartar buildup.

To use this method, mix one tablespoon of baking soda with two teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide to form a paste. Brush your teeth with the mixture for two minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water. Repeat once a week for best results.

Small points:

  • Do not use this method too often, as overuse of baking soda can damage tooth enamel.
  • If you experience any sensitivity or irritation, discontinue use immediately.
  • Consult with your dentist before trying this method if you have any pre-existing dental conditions.

Try Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is an ancient practice that involves swishing oil around in your mouth to remove toxins and improve oral health. Coconut oil is a popular choice for oil pulling, as it has natural antibacterial properties that can help prevent tartar buildup.

To try oil pulling, put one tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around for 15-20 minutes. Spit the oil out into a trash can (not down the sink), then rinse your mouth with warm water and brush your teeth as usual. Repeat two to three times a week for best results.

Small points:

  • Use pure, organic coconut oil for best results.
  • Do not swallow the oil, as it may contain harmful toxins and bacteria.
  • If you experience any discomfort or nausea, stop immediately.

Use Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is another natural remedy that has been shown to help remove tartar from teeth. ACV contains acetic acid, which can help break down plaque and dissolve tartar buildup.

To use this method, mix one tablespoon of ACV with a cup of water and rinse your mouth thoroughly with the solution for about 30 seconds. Spit the mixture out and rinse your mouth with plain water. Repeat once a day for a few weeks until you notice an improvement.

Small points:

  • Do not use undiluted ACV, as it may damage tooth enamel.
  • If you experience any sensitivity or irritation, discontinue use immediately.
  • Consult with your dentist before trying this method if you have any pre-existing dental conditions.

Eat Crunchy Fruits and Vegetables

Eating crunchy fruits and vegetables like apples, carrots, and celery can help remove plaque and prevent tartar buildup. Chewing on these foods stimulates saliva production, which helps neutralize harmful acids in the mouth and wash away food particles and bacteria.

Small points:

  • Make sure to thoroughly chew these crunchy foods to maximize their benefits.
  • Incorporate a variety of fruits and vegetables into your diet for overall oral health and well-being.
  • Avoid sugary or sticky foods that can contribute to plaque buildup and tooth decay.

Use a Tartar Control Mouthwash

Using a tartar control mouthwash can help prevent and reduce tartar buildup on teeth. These mouthwashes contain ingredients like fluoride and antimicrobial agents that can kill bacteria and strengthen tooth enamel.

Small points:

  • Look for mouthwashes that are specifically designed for tartar control.
  • Follow the instructions on the label carefully, as some products may require a specific duration of use to be effective.
  • Do not use mouthwash as a substitute for brushing and flossing.

In conclusion, removing yellow tartar from teeth is important for maintaining good oral health and a bright, confident smile. By following proper oral hygiene habits and incorporating natural remedies like baking soda, coconut oil, and apple cider vinegar, you can effectively prevent and reduce tartar buildup at home. Additionally, eating a healthy diet rich in crunchy fruits and vegetables and using a tartar control mouthwash can further support your oral health. Remember to consult with your dentist before trying any new remedies or if you have any pre-existing dental conditions.
