What causes bad mouth smell?

Causes of bad breath 1. Oral diseases: People with dental caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, oral mucositis, tooth decay, periodontal disease and other oral diseases are prone to bacteria, especially anaerobic bacteria, which decompose and produce Sulfur compounds are released, giving off a rotten smell, resulting in bad breath.
2. Gastrointestinal diseases, such as peptic ulcer, chronic gastritis, functional dyspepsia, etc., may be accompanied by bad breath. Recently, we have also found that the incidence of halitosis in patients with Helicobacter pylori infection, which causes many gastric diseases, is significantly higher than that in uninfected patients, and the symptoms of halitosis are significantly reduced after eradication of Helicobacter pylori. The reason may be that Helicobacter pylori infection directly produces sulfide, which causes bad breath.
3. People who smoke, drink alcohol, drink coffee, and often eat spicy food such as onions, garlic, leeks, or stinky tofu, rotten eggs, etc., are also prone to bad breath.
4. Diet to lose weight, or unable to eat due to illness, or the salivary gland function of the elderly is reduced, and women have endocrine disorders during menstruation, resulting in reduced saliva secretion, which is conducive to the growth of anaerobic bacteria, so bad breath occurs.
5. Bad breath in young girls: Some women in puberty have insufficiency of ovaries and low levels of sex hormones, the resistance of oral tissues is reduced, and they are easily infected with bacteria, resulting in bad breath.
6. Drugs that can reduce saliva secretion, such as certain sedatives, hypotensive drugs, atropine drugs, diuretics, and traditional Chinese medicines with warming and tonic effects.
7. Patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, hepatic coma, and some respiratory diseases such as bronchitis, bronchiectasis, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, lung cysts, etc., may also cause bad breath.
8. Long-term constipation will cause bad breath, abdominal distension, loss of appetite, irritability and other autopoisoning symptoms because the harmful substances produced in the body cannot be discharged in time and are absorbed into the blood. (See: Habitual Constipation)
9. Dinner is too “heavy”, overeating or eating meat, the proportion of greasy food is too large or the amount of hot and irritating seasoning is too large, the fragrance is too strong, the light is not enough, the time between dinner and sleep is too short, and the stomach is in the stomach when sleeping There is still too much food and so on. (See: Don’t be too “heavy” for dinner)
10. Excessive psychological pressure, frequent mental stress causes the body’s parasympathetic nerves to be in an excited state, and the digestive glands, especially the salivary glands, decrease in secretion reflexively, resulting in dry mouth, which is conducive to the growth of anaerobic bacteria, resulting in bad breath.
11. Mental factors. There is no bad breath, neither do doctors nor others, but the patient insists that he smells bad breath, and “discovers” that others “keep away from me”, “do not interact with me”, “when speaking” Keep away from me.” Others scratched their noses and touched their faces occasionally, but insisted that “they smelled my bad breath and were about to cover their noses, but because of my face, they were afraid that I would be embarrassed, so they turned to use” Scratching your nose, touching your face’ and other actions to cover up.” They have neurotic, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, more common in hypochondriacal neurosis. Such patients are very painful, so I hope everyone will not discriminate against them, care more about them, and give them confidence.
Prevention and treatment of bad breath
First of all, pay great attention to oral hygiene, brush your teeth carefully every morning, before going to bed and after meals, and when necessary, gently brush off the tongue coating with a toothbrush or a clean towel.
Secondly, quit smoking and alcohol; the diet should be relatively light, avoid eating cold, irritating, smelly (such as garlic, onion, leeks, stinky tofu, etc.) and indigestible, greasy (high protein, high fat) food; Chew slowly when eating; drink plenty of water, eat more vegetables, fruits and beans; keep a regular schedule and keep a good mood; take part in more physical exercise. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that bad breath belongs to the “heat” of the gastrointestinal tract, so it is recommended that bad breath should eat as little as possible warm and cold foods that help heat, and eat some heat-clearing foods in moderation.
Third, in terms of treatment, we must first actively treat the primary disease. For diseases of the oral cavity, digestive system, respiratory system, etc. that can cause halitosis, corresponding treatment should be actively carried out; because halitosis is often caused by oral or digestive tract infection of anaerobic bacteria or facultative anaerobic bacteria, it is possible to take tinitrate azole or metronidazole (not for more than 7 days, disabled for mental patients, pregnant women, lactating women, and those with liver insufficiency), which is a drug for the treatment of anaerobic or facultative anaerobic bacteria; Helicobacter pylori infection Caused by bad breath, you can take drugs to cure Helicobacter pylori. You can also use 10 grams of traditional Chinese medicine Peilan, and brew it with boiling water (that is, use Peilan instead of tea to brew it like tea) 1-2 times a day, which is better than some chewing gum; knocking teeth is also a good method: Close your lips and tap your teeth gently 100-300 times, during which there may be an increase in saliva, swallow slowly, 2-3 times a day, it not only treats bad breath, but also has a good effect on oral diseases, everyone may wish to try ; In addition, those who belong to the mental factor halitosis, the medication is ineffective, need to see a psychiatrist.
