The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) has named Daniel J. Buksa, JD, CAE, as its new Executive Director. Buksa assumed the role this month after serving as Acting Executive Director since October 2024. He has served AGD for more than 25 years and has a deep understanding of the needs of AGD members and general dentists.
“We are very pleased to appoint Dan as Executive Director of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD),” said Chethan Chetty, DDS, MAGD, AGD President.
“Dan’s deep knowledge of AGD, combined with his extensive leadership experience, enables him to lead our organization as it continues to evolve and adapt to the needs of our members.
His commitment to our mission, as well as his proven track record in public affairs and strategic leadership, will undoubtedly propel AGD to new heights and ensure we support all general dentists.”
As Executive Director, Buksa will oversee the strategic, operational, financial and governance aspects of AGD. His vision and leadership will guide AGD and its key initiatives to enhance dentists’ engagement with AGD and its high-quality programs, services and benefits.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by the confidence that the AGD Board of Directors has placed in my leadership,” said Buksa. “I look forward to working hand-in-hand with the AGD team to advance the College’s mission and vision, support our members, and, in turn, enhance the care they provide to their patients.”
Buksa’s long career with AGD includes serving in a number of key positions. His experience as Associate Executive Director of Public Affairs since 2006 has been instrumental in shaping AGD’s policy development and public image.
He joined the organization in 1997 as Communications Manager and later served as Director of General Dental Representatives until 2006.
Buksa received his JD from Valparaiso University in 1993 and served in the U.S. Army from 1984 to 1988. He is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) through the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
In addition to his work with AGD, Buxar is an elected member of the board of directors of Catholic Foresters, a mid-sized fraternal life insurance company. He is also active in the American Legion, currently serving as a judge ad litem and previously as a commander.
