Sun Life US today announced the appointment of Dr. Todd Gray as Chief Dental Officer (CDO) for its dental business, including DentaQuest.
Dr. Gray will focus on strengthening the company’s clinical strategy, including implementing evidence-based improvements, monitoring quality, strengthening partnerships with dental service providers and dental specialty associations, and driving innovation in oral health care.

In this role, Dr. Gray will build a culture of person-centered, prevention-focused care across the company. He will also support Sun Life’s advocacy efforts to educate policymakers and other stakeholders about the importance of oral health to overall health and help ensure legislation and related efforts promote greater access to high-quality dental care.

Dr. Gray has more than 20 years of dental leadership experience spanning direct patient care, managed dental benefits administration, and a focus on special populations, including Medicaid recipients and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Most recently, he served as a clinical consultant for DentaQuest, supporting physician-dental integration, network recruitment and development, client and government outreach, and market mediation and benefit design.
Previously, Dr. Gray served as Chief Development Officer for Teledentistry.com, Chief Development Officer and Senior Vice President of Quality Management for Liberty Dental Plan, and Director of Dentistry for the State of Nevada.
He has also served as a public policy advocate for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dentistry, and on the boards of organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and the Nevada Medicaid Advisory Committee.
Dr. Gray received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, where he also completed his residency in Pediatric Dentistry.
