Convergent Dental’s Solea Perioguide is being hailed as the next generation of minimally invasive periodontal treatment options. This new application of the Solea full-tissue laser allows for safe, effective, and efficient periodontal treatment without sutures and minimal post-operative discomfort.
With this advanced technology, general dentists can provide superior care directly to their patients and maintain continuity of care. Robert L. Gershon, CEO of Convergent Dental, added that this new minimally invasive laser therapy improves periodontal treatment outcomes and increases patient comfort.
“The Solea Perioguide represents a paradigm shift in periodontal care,” he said in a press release. “Dentists can confidently treat periodontitis in their practices with an easy-to-use, minimally invasive solution that prioritizes patient comfort and clinical outcomes.”
According to Convergent Dental, a study led by Myron Nevins, DDS, and Dr. Marc L. Nevins, MD, a periodontist, confirmed the clinical effectiveness of Solea-assisted periodontal treatment.
The study found that, for teeth with initial pocket depths of 7 mm or greater, Solea treatment reduced pocket depth by an average of approximately 4 mm, with pocket depth reductions of up to 7 mm in some cases. The study also demonstrated Solea’s long-term efficacy, with 98% of treated teeth maintaining pocket depths of less than 5 mm nine months after treatment.
Histological evidence from a small number of extracted teeth further confirmed new bone formation and connective tissue attachment. The company added that these results underscore Solea’s ability to help patients with moderate to severe periodontitis restore and maintain healthy periodontal health.
“Periodontal disease is one of the most common yet challenging oral conditions, and many dentists refer patients to other facilities due to the complexity and invasiveness of traditional treatments. The Solea Perioguide changes that,” said Jeffrey Rohde, DDS, MSc.
“It allows me to treat periodontitis in my office efficiently and with excellent clinical results while providing a more comfortable experience for my patients. I also use it for crown lengthening and extractions, making it an extremely versatile tool.”
Periodontist and implantologist Monica Lara-Cordoba, DDS, has been using Solea in her periodontist practice since 2019 and says it has improved her success rates in treating periodontitis and peri-implantitis.
“Since then, I have performed over 1,200 periodontal procedures with excellent clinical results,” she says. “About half of those procedures involved bone grafting, and I have achieved bone regeneration and saved teeth and implants that were not salvageable before incorporating Solea into my treatment regimen.
The Solea Perioguide will enable more dentists to offer their patients effective, minimally invasive treatments.”
