A 22-year-old man pretended to be a dentist without relevant qualifications. With the information obtained from the Internet, he not only examined patients, but also performed medical operations such as tooth extraction, root canal treatment and anesthesia.
The illegal clinic also involved two other people: a 50-year-old woman who worked as a nurse, and a 44-year-old man who was responsible for making dentures for patients.
The police said in a statement that the woman, who worked in the health department, not only assisted in anesthesia, but also provided other dental materials she could obtain, including fillings, tooth cleaning powder, adhesives and dental mold materials.
When asked by AFP whether any patients had filed complaints, local police spokeswoman Mikaela Lebrova refused to respond.
According to the police, the illegal dental institution provided treatment to dozens of people, involving a fraud amount of up to 4 million Czech crowns (about 185,500 US dollars).
The three people involved in the case were arrested earlier this month and charged with illegal medical practice, money laundering, attempted injury, drug trafficking and theft.
Although the three had no criminal record, they have admitted the charges and are currently being temporarily released, but still face up to eight years in prison.
It is worth noting that in order to alleviate the shortage of dentists, the Czech Parliament passed a bill last year to encourage the introduction of dental professionals from outside the EU.
