How to prevent gum recession

How to prevent gum recession

Gum recession refers to a common oral disease caused by the presence of dental calculus at the bottom of the gums and bacterial growth. Gum recession can be divided into pathological atrophy and physiological atrophy. Pathological atrophy is mainly caused by the growth of bacteria because the teeth are not cleaned for a long time. Physiological atrophy is due to the increase of age and the exposure of the gums, which can delay the process of root atrophy through health care .

If the root atrophy affects the aesthetics, lateral steering flap surgery, or some other surgery, can be used to cover the exposed root surface, or resin can be used to make the gingiva of the denture to solve the aesthetic problem. Gingival recession is irreversible. If gingival recession occurs, care must be taken to maintain it to prevent aggravation. Of course, gingival recession can be prevented.

The first is to pay attention to the health care of the oral cavity. It is a more effective method to keep your teeth clean from time to time. You can also regularly wash your teeth in the hospital. In the “Oral Health Guidelines for Chinese Residents”, it is mentioned that it is recommended to go to the hospital for cleaning once a year, which can effectively prevent gingival inflammation . For patients who have symptoms of periodontal disease , they can go to the hospital for systematic treatment.

Second, to master the correct brushing method , toothbrushes with soft bristles and blunt tops are recommended, so that it is not easy to damage the gums. Toothpaste with fluoride is the best. The correct way of brushing your teeth is the vertical brushing method or the short horizontal vibration method. When the toothbrush is rubbing against the teeth, do not rub the gums too much to prevent damage to the protective mechanism of the gums, thereby causing inflammation of the oral cavity. Of course, flossing and other cleaning should be used in conjunction with brushing. If you use toothpicks for a long time to shave the material between the teeth, it is easy to cause the gums between the teeth to shrink.

The vertical brushing method is to press down slightly in the direction of the teeth, move up and down, and brush the inner side of the teeth and the occlusal place. This method can effectively remove the plaque and dirt in the gap between the teeth, and can also stimulate the gums. The gums maintain an aesthetically pleasing shape.

The short stroke method is when the bristles of the toothbrush are at a 45-degree angle to the teeth. Then move left and right, although this is also a type of horizontal brush, but because it is a short-distance horizontal brush, the amplitude is small, so it will not damage the teeth, and of course it is not easy to damage the gums. In addition, no matter which method is used, the action should be gentle, if brushing too hard, it is easy to damage the gums and gums. As long as you take it seriously, you can achieve the desired effect.

For teeth cleaning, you must go to a regular dental hospital or dental clinic, and do not try to be cheap and convenient, because poor oral and gingival repair is also the main reason for gingival recession. Once gingival recession occurs, the principles of early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment should be followed to avoid the aggravation of the situation.
