How to make teeth white naturally from yellow

A bright, white smile can boost your confidence and enhance your overall appearance. While there are numerous commercial teeth-whitening products on the market, many individuals prefer natural remedies to whiten their yellow teeth. In this extensive guide, we will explore four effective methods to naturally whiten teeth and achieve a dazzling smile.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that involves swishing oil in your mouth to remove toxins and promote oral health. One of the most popular oils for this practice is coconut oil, known for its antimicrobial properties. Here’s how to perform oil pulling effectively:

Advertisements
  1. Take a tablespoon of organic coconut oil and put it in your mouth.
  2. Swish the oil around your mouth for about 15-20 minutes, making sure to move it through your teeth and along your gums.
  3. Spit out the oil into a trash can (to prevent clogging drains) and rinse your mouth thoroughly with warm water.
  4. Brush your teeth as usual.

Oil pulling helps eliminate bacteria and plaque from the surface of your teeth, which can contribute to yellowing. It’s best to incorporate oil pulling into your daily oral hygiene routine for optimal results.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a natural ingredient with mild abrasive properties that can help remove surface stains from teeth. Here’s how to use baking soda effectively for teeth whitening:

Advertisements
  1. Mix one teaspoon of baking soda with a few drops of water to create a paste.
  2. Apply the paste to your toothbrush and gently brush your teeth for approximately two minutes.
  3. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with water.
  4. Use this method once or twice a week, as excessive use may damage tooth enamel.

Baking soda works by scrubbing away stains on the surface of your teeth. However, it’s important to note that it may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with sensitive teeth or damaged enamel.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is a common ingredient in many commercial teeth-whitening products. It acts as a bleaching agent, breaking down stains on the surface of the teeth. However, caution must be exercised when using hydrogen peroxide to avoid harming your gums. Here’s how to use it safely:

  1. Dilute hydrogen peroxide with an equal amount of water to reduce its concentration.
  2. Swish the solution around your mouth for 30 seconds to one minute.
  3. Spit out the solution and rinse your mouth thoroughly with water.
  4. Be careful not to swallow the mixture.

Hydrogen peroxide can effectively whiten teeth, but it’s essential to use it sparingly and follow the instructions carefully to prevent potential side effects such as gum irritation or tooth sensitivity.

Natural Whitening Agents

Several natural ingredients possess whitening properties and can be used as alternatives to commercial products. These include:

Strawberries:

Mash a ripe strawberry and apply it to your teeth for a few minutes. The malic acid in strawberries helps remove stains. Remember to rinse your mouth afterward to remove any residual sugar.

Orange or lemon peels:

Rub the inside of an orange or lemon peel on your teeth for a few minutes. These citrus fruits contain natural acids that can help brighten your smile. However, since they are acidic, it’s important to rinse your mouth afterward to protect tooth enamel.

Apple cider vinegar:

Gargle with diluted apple cider vinegar for a few minutes before brushing your teeth. The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar aids in removing stains. However, due to its acidity, it’s crucial to use this method sparingly to avoid damaging tooth enamel.

It’s important to note that while these natural whitening agents can be effective, results may vary for each individual. Consistency and regular oral hygiene practices are key to achieving and maintaining a white smile.

Additional Tips for Maintaining White Teeth

In addition to the natural remedies mentioned above, here are some additional tips to help you maintain a white smile:

Practice good oral hygiene: Brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and floss daily.

Limit consumption of staining foods and beverages: Foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, red wine, and berries can contribute to teeth staining. Reduce their intake and rinse your mouth afterward.

Use a straw: When consuming beverages that may stain your teeth, use a straw to minimize direct contact.

Quit smoking: Tobacco products can cause severe tooth discoloration. Quitting smoking can improve not only your oral health but also your overall well-being.
