Of the more than 9 million veterans eligible for health care through the Veterans Administration (VHA), approximately 1.8 million are also eligible for dental care. The third largest source of benefits for veterans eligible for dental care is the Community Care Network (CCN), which they receive annually.
The CCN is a private network of VA-affiliated providers that serves eligible veterans who are unable to receive care at VA facilities due to long wait times or distance.
The Protecting Veterans’ Rights Act of 2022, considered the largest health care and benefits expansion in VA history, made 330,000 veterans eligible for dental care.
Despite this, many veterans report difficulty accessing affordable dental care. The influx of eligible veterans has strained the already overburdened health care infrastructure within the VHA and even exceeded the capacity of the CCN to manage.
