Millennium Dental Technologies, Inc. announced today that it has been granted a new U.S. patent (#12,011,326) for a laser-assisted periodontal treatment procedure related to its LANAP protocol, which uses the PerioLase MVP-7, a free-running, variable-pulse Nd:YAG laser.
The announcement coincides with Gum Disease Awareness Month, which has been officially proclaimed by all 50 states, multiple territories, and multiple provinces in Canada to promote early detection and treatment of gum disease. Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, affects up to 85% of adults and is the leading cause of tooth loss.
Developed specifically for the treatment of moderate to severe periodontal disease, the minimally invasive LANAP protocol significantly reduces harmful bacteria, preserves healthy tissue, and regenerates alveolar bone without cutting or suturing, helping to preserve natural teeth.
This new patent builds on the company’s existing patented procedures for using PerioLase MVP-7 to eliminate disease and regenerate bone, periodontal ligament, and cementum on previously diseased root surfaces.
“This further solidifies our leadership in dental laser-assisted regenerative technology and innovative therapies such as the LANAP program,” said Robert H. Gregg II, DDS, Founder, President, and Chairman of the Board of Millennium Dental Technologies.
“Combined with our other patents, this patent protects our years of research into the LANAP protocol and other proprietary laser therapies that are only possible with our PerioLase MVP-7 dental laser.”
Other procedures unique to the PerioLase MVP-7 include:
LAPIP protocol to save diseased and failing dental implants
BLAST protocol to prevent peri-implantitis and enhance implant integration
VAPS (Value Added Procedures), including dozens of soft and hard tissue laser techniques, from treating the TMJ, hemangiomas and fibromas to depigmentation, hemostasis and extraction socket disinfection
Each year, Millennium Dental Technologies, in partnership with the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry (IALD), a nonprofit educational and research organization dedicated to eradicating periodontitis, initiates an annual giving commitment to provide free LANAP treatments to approximately 100 patients.
Since its inception, the annual giving commitment has benefited more than 1,600 patients and provided more than $16 million in free dental treatment.
Millennium Dental Technologies, based in Cerritos, California, is the developer of the LANAP solution for periodontal disease and manufacturer of the PerioLase MVP-7 Nd:YAG free-pulsing laser.
The company’s FDA-cleared LANAP solution eliminates the fear of gum disease treatment by providing a comfortable treatment experience and unique bone remodeling clinical results, offering a more comfortable and less invasive alternative to traditional surgery.
The company’s founding clinician, Robert H. Gregg II, DDS, continues to lead the vision of creating better clinical outcomes for periodontal patients while adhering to the guiding principle: “It’s all about the patient.”
