Ormco, a global leader in orthodontic solutions for over 60 years, is pleased to announce today the launch of Ormco EtchFree Bonding, a modern take on conventional adhesives and bonding processes.
In over 100 years of orthodontic advancement, the launch of EtchFree is a breakthrough bonding solution designed to revolutionize and improve clinical efficiency and help maintain healthy enamel.
“During the bonding process, most practitioners overlook the drawbacks of traditional etching, such as rough tooth surfaces and potential damage to enamel. I can see a clear difference just by looking, while the damage that can be caused by traditional bonding is difficult to detect.
In addition, bonding carries risks such as patient discomfort, debonding sensitivity, and bond reliability, and the biggest headache for most orthodontists is ensuring that etching and rinsing are completed thoroughly to avoid technical sensitivity,” said Dr. Jennifer Messenger.
“I am very happy because there has been no innovation in bonding. My office is more efficient because patients do not have to come back for multiple visits in the first few weeks of treatment because of brackets falling out.”
Ormco EtchFree Bonding eliminates the need for etching, which allows for:
Easier and faster process – no etching, rinsing, drying or waiting. No special steps, just brushing.
Fewer debonds – Stable bonds in wet and dry locations. Moisture resistant at every bonding step.
Enhanced patient experience – Helps maintain healthy enamel. No risk of burns or discomfort. Helps prevent white spot lesions (WSL).
How it works:
Etch-based bonding – Resin penetrates the etched surface and cures to form a mechanical bond.
Ormco EtchFree Technology – Ionic bonds form directly with the calcium in the enamel without damaging the tooth surface.
Ormco EtchFree bonding materials demonstrate consistent bond strength in both dry and wet conditions (compared to test products). EtchFree bonding materials improve the patient and practitioner experience by reducing debonding due to moisture contamination.
The traditional etching, priming and bonding process requires 11 steps, while EtchFree bonding materials only require 9 steps, making the process faster and easier. By eliminating the steps of extra waiting, careful rinsing, drying and technical sensitivity, customers can significantly improve clinical efficiency.
“With the amazing advances in orthodontic technology, it is surprising that there have been so few improvements to standard bonding modalities,” said Jay Issa, Vice President of Portfolio Management at Ormco.
Ormco responded to the industry’s need for a better system that performs well in both wet and dry environments, reducing pain points for orthodontic professionals. EtchFree not only improves bond reliability, but also improves patient comfort and helps protect tooth enamel health.”
