Dentsply Sirona issued a press release stating that the digital transformation currently being experienced by the dental industry is significantly improving workplace safety and health.
In its statement, the company reiterated that it will continue to advance the development of digital solutions to help oral health professionals provide more efficient care services.
According to data released by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the number of reports of occupational injuries and illnesses in dental clinics has continued to decline in recent years.
This trend is partly attributed to the enhanced infection prevention and control measures and the popularization of risk awareness during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the continued advancement of digital transformation is also considered one of the key factors in the decline in accident rates.
Dentists often face back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and other musculoskeletal system diseases due to long-term poor posture and repetitive operations.
However, studies have shown that connected treatment centers that integrate multiple digital technologies and meet the needs of dentists can help relieve work stress and optimize ergonomic design, thereby improving the overall work environment.
Although digital technologies, new automated processes and AI-driven systems have made dental operations faster and more efficient, effectively reducing safety risks, physical labor is still an important part of dental work.
The International Labor Organization (ILO) will release a comprehensive report on how digital transformation can improve safety and health at work.
The report is expected to summarize the various initiatives of governments, companies, workers and other stakeholders on how to reduce occupational risks.
Dentsply Sirona said that the company will continue to focus on developing innovative solutions, focusing on promoting digital development, and strive to provide dental professionals with more tools to help them care for patients more efficiently.
Nadia Amor, head of the company’s imaging solutions, noted: “Continuous advances in digitalization have led to innovative products such as the latest generation of X-ray systems, such as the Heliodent Plus X-ray generator with intraoral sensors, which effectively reduces radiation exposure compared to traditional phosphor plate systems.”
Rainer Seemann, vice president and chief clinical officer of Dentsply Sirona, said: “We are proud to be at the forefront of the digital transformation of dentistry.
The application of digital technology plays an important role in creating a safer and healthier clinic environment, further confirming our commitment to improving the quality of care, simplifying workflows and enhancing the safety of dental professionals.”
In addition, the press release also mentioned that the research of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States also pointed out that other key factors for improving occupational health and safety include more advanced use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and stricter hygiene operation standards.
Dentsply Sirona emphasizes that dental practitioners should continue to strengthen these measures to further reduce the risk of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens and harmful chemicals.
